Liar Liar Pants on Fire

Liar Liar..... Pants on Fire

As children run around the schoolyard at recess one can usually hear the cadence of Liar Liar pants on fire. How well we all can recite the Walt Disney classic of Pinocchio about the little wooden boy that each time he told a lie his nose would grow. We have all heard that the repercussions of a lie is like dominoes, once you tell one lie then you have to tell another to cover up the first thus creating a domino effect. The most common reason that one would have to lie is to avoid confrontation. In a metropolitan area when one is late for an appointment, it is easy to say that they were held up in traffic because of an accident. It would be believable as that is a daily occurrence in such congested areas. Another common reason people lie is to make themselves seem better or more interesting, usually a sign of low self esteem, problems at home or work, or even depression. Chronic lying can signal a psychiatric or social disorder. Lies can damage your self-image and cause inner conflicts like dissonance that drastically change the way you view and act upon the world and other people. Lying that may indicate emotional problems may be telling elaborate or fabricated stories, which appear believable. These lies when told are with enthusiasm because the lie teller receives a lot of attention as they are telling the lie. Little white lies or superficial lies are told when the truth would only serve to hurt another person. Such as when a wife ask her husband if the outfit that she is wearing makes her look fat. Naturally to save harm to himself the husband will say of course not dear you look beautiful. If you are a chronic liar and can tell elaborate lies with enthusiasm then you may want to attend the Festival of Lying at the Grizedale Theatre in Cumbria England. In the 19th century, Will Ritson who always kept his customers enchanted with stories of the folk heritage of the area. Each year in November a contest is held to award the title of the Biggest Liar in the World and cash to the person who is worthy of following in Ritson's footsteps, you may hear Liar Liar Pants on Fire.
